Community Smiles Dental Announces Next Chief Executive Officer

WAUKESHA, WI (Tuesday, May 28, 2024) — Community Smiles Dental (CSD), a non-profit organization serving the greater Milwaukee area, announces its next chief executive officer as its founding chief executive officer plans to retire. 

Karin Kultgen, M.D. Community Smiles Dental’s board chair shared,  “In January, Community Smiles Dental’s founding chief executive officer, Renee Ramirez, announced that she plans to retire in 2024. In response, late last year, CSD’s Board of Directors created a transition committee and after a competitive process this spring, identified a talented group of applicants. CSD is grateful for the vision and leadership that Renee has provided over the past 17 years. At this time, CSD’s Board of Directors is pleased to introduce Scott Marshall as our next CEO. Scott brings experience and a passion for serving our community and most importantly our patients.“ 

Renee Ramirez describes her reflection, “Since Community Smiles Dental’s inception in 2007, I am so proud of the work this organization has done. We are one of the only safety net dental clinics in the greater Milwaukee area that is dedicated to providing affordable dental healthcare and a dental home for low-income youth. Over the last 16 years, CSD has provided more than $35 million in care to 34,000 patients. These are individuals who previously had nowhere to go to receive high-quality dental healthcare. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 17-year tenure with the organization and as I step down as CEO, I am excited to see what the organization will achieve in the future under new leadership!” 

According to Scott Marshall, “Joining Community Smiles Dental is a great honor, and I eagerly anticipate collaborating with our dedicated community partners, donors, staff, and volunteers. Together, we will build upon the groundbreaking work led by Renee Ramirez, furthering our mission to provide compassionate dental healthcare to those in need. ”

Community Smiles Dental will welcome Scott Marshall in June of 2024. Renee Ramirez will support Scott and the organization in an advisory capacity as she moves towards retirement.
